For Avva and Appa - Cards from Dhummu

For Grandmom and Daddy dearest, my daughter joined me in the craft hour today.

Actually we created the cards and later on when i asked whom she would give this card to, she chose Avva(Grandma) and Appa (Daddy)

She did cut out few of the hearts, colored all of them (YES!) and also helped in pasting them, we went and got a mini glue stick which she will find it easy to use.

Today was marked as Alteration day in Sewing so i wrapped all that in forenoon. Slept at noon (Yes another power nap!) Evening was dedicated to craft session.

I held her hand and scribbled the text (she will one day write on her own)

Found New Hobby - PopUp Card Making!

I was exhausted and decided to take a power nap; it ended up being super power nap of 2 solid hours at noon. When my little darling naps, i try to finish as much of my sewing activities for the day. Now those 2 hours were gone.

All that happens, happens for good, so i decided to make this as No-Sewing day and just browsed through Craftster and saw the Best of 2009

Accidentally landed upon PopupCard project . Wow i was amazed by the cards on offer. You can do wonders with paper and pair of scissors. I have found a new hobby which i plan to pursue seriously.

My darling daughter is also learning the ropes of cutting and fold at her Montessori, So decided to rope her in and this is what we created. Not bad for the first attempt, isn't it.

She has promised me and asked me to promise her as well - "We will sit and do this craft TOGETHER daily"

Now that's a promise to be kept. What a way to spend time with her!!!!

Patiala Salwar Tutorial - Part II

We saw an introduction and generic pattern for Patiala last week in Part I

I had drafted a presentation in powerpoint and have saved them as PNG files and uploaded the same.
Here is the Link to the Presentation

Patiala Salwar Part II Pattern Files Presentation

This week we shall see how to draft a Pattern using custom measurements
You would need the following measurements

  1. Pant Height
  2. Crotch Depth ( This depth will be more than fitted silhouette depth as it is loose fitting; So add 4-5 inches to it)
  3. Hip Round
  4. Leg Opening (as desired; min 18-20 inches recommended)

Please feel free to clarify your doubts. Comments and suggestions most welcome

Simple Lavendar Chikan Work Salwar

This is a simple salwar set (nice Chikan work on fabric isn't it- a Lucknow speciality )
Neckline and sleeve hem has been worked up using bias strips.

The salwar also had to be joined rather than cut on fold, since the embroidery pattern was not provided for on both ends. Hence the fabric had to be cut and used as front portion of salwar. Since the join would seem obvious, added contrast piping to it.

The neckline at back as 2 bias strips to add zing.

The neckline at front is an experimentation of using bias strips directly as contrast patch even in curved necklines. Though i did not get the exact shape intended, the resultant shape of the neck was good as well. Do you agree. As i need feedback on this neckline since it is an experimentation with bias strips and their varied usages.

Designer Sleeve and Patch V Neck Salwar Kameez

Wish i could get better pic of sleeve, one has to wear it to get the right view of the design, will try persuading my client to pose for me (just the sleeve would do)

I had earlier posted asking for which of the V Neck patch to choose then went ahead with Patch Option 2 as it looked more closer to V patch which the client was particular about. Option 1 though looked very good and i personally liked it. Will use it sometime in my own future projects.

Removed the patch at the bottom most part of the pant (as it was too long a patch) and used it for the neck.

Then had to redo interfacing at the bottom of the pant.

Spent a lot of time in getting the V neck patch look like V neck (the pattern on the patch made it more tougher)

This project took a lot of time and the sleeves just added on to it.

Here are pics
